Welcome to my piano studio! This site is for prospective piano students and Janice Raspen's current piano students and their families.
I was fortunate to study under two wonderful teachers, David Skopek (from ages 7-11) and Andrea Bogusko (from ages 11-20). While I was in college studying English and elementary education, Andrea asked me to teach piano at her store, where she had about fifteen studios for teachers of many different instruments.
I have taught piano almost continuously since 1987, and my solid musical foundation and sound teaching skills have enabled many students to find joy in learning to play the piano. During the day, I am a middle school librarian, but after that and on the weekends, I teach piano in my home studio.
Generally, I use the Bastien or Alfred piano method programs (including theory and ear training) supplementing with pieces from other books or series as needed. I encourage students to play music they enjoy, whether that is popular music, country music, holiday songs, or even hymns. For adult students, I use a piano course specifically designed for their needs and interests.
Currently, I have many wonderful students who study with me regularly, and they range in age from seven to adult. Several of my students are boys, and I enjoy teaching siblings in the same family. After a busy day at work, there is no better way to spend the evening than making music.
